Trans Library Toronto Pop-Up

Consisting of over 300 books and zines authored by or containing significant content about trans people, the Trans Library Toronto Pop-Up at Toronto Zine Library sought to provide an opportunity for people in the trans community to access information about themselves and literature that reflects their experiences during a time in which information about trans people is being restricted in Canada and abroad.
Inspired by the Trans Library Helsinki and Ottawa Trans Library, this project took a DIY approach to librarianship, soliciting donations from local trans, queer, and otherwise allied people’s personal libraries temporarily. The pop-up became a hub at which to congregate, as well as advertise other trans creations, events, and services.
The library is looking towards future pop-ups and using Instagram to continue to promote trans literature.
